City of Minneapolis now has police misconduct complaint results online; Rally against new police contract Friday

The City of Minneapolis website now includes a Police Discipline Decision Dashboard.

Partial list.

Cases include confirmed charges of: Failure to show courtesy and respect (use of foul language); failure to write an adequate report; code of ethics violations (such as off-duty drunk driving); failure to deescalate; and violation of reasonable force standards.

The final reports are available on line, though often with significant redactions. Disciplinary actions include: temporary demotion; permanent demotion; written reprimand; suspension; and dismissal.

Currently, the cases run from April 3, 2012 to Dec. 1, 2021. The webpage lists the incident date, the precinct where it occurred, the case number, the officers name, the charge, and a link to the final disciplinary decision.

Click on the blue box that says: “View Full Screen” to do individual searches. Scroll down on that same page to find links to the discipline reports.

On April 9, Reporter Deena Winter of the Minnesota Reformer analyzed the city’s police complaint “data dump” under the headline: “Nearly 4 years after Floyd protests, police misconduct complaint outcomes are finally released.”

Recently released city documents, first reported by the Star Tribune, show at least a dozen Minneapolis police officers were disciplined for misconduct in the days of demonstrations and rioting following George Floyd’s May 2020 police killing.

Many more left the department before investigations into their conduct were complete, short-circuiting the process. …

The fact that we haven’t seen any final action on these misconduct complaints until now is more proof of what the Reformer reported in 2020: The city is very bad at getting rid of bad cops in a timely fashion.

City of Minneapolis and police union are nearing new contract, group calls for Friday rally opposing the deal

The city of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Police Federation are scheduled for their next — and potentially last — closed door contract talks this Friday, April 26, from 8:30-9:30 a.m., according to the group Mpls for a Better Police Contract.

The group is calling for a rally outside of the mediation session, which will be held at the Bureau of Mediation Services, 2021 Bandana Blvd. East in St. Paul, according to an email blast the group sent out.

It said:

MPD Chief O’Hara put out a video to rank and file cops saying THE POLICE CONTRACT IS NEAR TO AGREEMENT” and that “MPD COPS DESERVE TO BE THE BEST PAID IN MINNESOTA!”

With NO substantive reforms in the almost 4 years since the torture and
murder of George Floyd, and the scathing state and federal investigations!!!

NO WAY – NO HOW!

NO Increased Wages Without Contract Reforms!
