We want to pass along a May 20 blog that Healing Minnesota Stories Founder Rev. Jim Bear Jacobs wrote for the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship. It is titled simply: Doctrine of Discovery. Here is the gist of it:
If there is a hope for the American Church today it is to cast off the tyranny of empire that has been the foundation of your history. It is to unwrap yourselves from the justifying cloak of nationalism. It is to admit that you inhabit stolen land and have benefited from genocide for the right to do so. It is to make yourself vulnerable, empty of power, and truly repent. It is to admit that you have lost the meaning of your scriptures because you read them from a position of privilege and power. It is to admit that you cannot find God without looking into the red and brown faces of Indigenous peoples.
