Indigenous leaders make urgent call for Water Protectors to attend Line 3 protest near Palisade, Monday at 9:30 a.m.

This from MN350: Native leaders on the frontlines of the fight against Line 3 have issued an urgent call: come on Monday, Dec 14 at 9:30am to stand with them and stop construction that imminently threatens the Mississippi River.

Go to Palisade, MN and then head north on Great River Road — you’ll see the meetup point. Since construction began nearly two weeks ago, many people have protested legally along the route, and some have been cited for protecting the water or engaging in peaceful civil disobedience on land where Enbridge is trying to build this harmful pipeline. At the meeting spot, you’ll learn more about the options for how to participate.

This pipeline violates federal and state law as well as the sovereign rights that Native people hold over their land. Today, water protectors including Dawn Goodwin of Indigenous Environmental Network and RISE Coalition were detained by state officers and cited for exercising treaty rights. We must educate our friends and relatives about these indefensible actions that Enbridge provokes and the Walz Administration enables. Together, they are rushing Line 3 construction in an attempt to complete the project before critical legal appeals overturn their permits. Rather than supporting the rights of Native nations, grassroots groups, and the Minnesota Department of Commerce to have their day in court, Gov. Tim Walz has helped speed this construction along and is refusing to call off the crews despite ongoing desecration of treaty lands, public health risks due to COVID-19, and escalation by the company against rapidly growing, widespread opposition to Line 3.
