Standing Rock Tribal Chairman Calls on DOJ to Monitor “Disproportionate” Response

Standing Rock Reservation Chairman Dave Archambault called yesterday’s militarized police response to the water protectors opposing the Dakota Access Pipeline an overreaction, and called on the Department of Justice to intervene, according to his statement, published by myndnow.com. Officers moved in with tanks and riot gear.

MPR reports that 141 people were arrested.

Archambault’s statement reads in part:

The Obama administration has asked DAPL to voluntarily halt construction until the review process has been completed, but DAPL has ignored these repeated requests. By deploying law enforcement to support DAPL construction, the State of North Dakota is collaborating with Energy Transfer Partners and escalating tensions.
